Etiquette
for Funeral Flowers
If you are unsure whether or not it is appropriate to send flowers,
check with the local religious leader or family of the deceased.
Baha'i
Every attempt will be made for the burial to take place within
one hours drive of where the death occurred. Flowers are appropriate.
Buddhist
It is commonplace for a Buddhist funeral to take place in a funeral
home. Flowers are normally considered appropriate.
Hindu
If at all possible the Hindu service will take place before sunset
on the day the person died. While it is not typically a Hindu
tradition, flowers may be sent.
Islamic
Discuss sending flowers to the family of the deceased with the
local religious leader or the family themselves as there are some
that find flowers appropriate and others that do not.
Jewish
Typically you would not send flowers to the funeral home or the
burial site. In some cases it may be appropriate to send flowers
or a fruit basket to the family's home. These new traditions,
however, are generally not practiced among Orthodox Jews.
